Abstract:In recent years, Chinese has gained unparalleled attention with the unceasingly deep-going communication between China and other countries. Correspondingly, idioms being an important part of Chinese language, how to translate them has also become an extremely challenging task. Although the research on idioms has aroused the concern of domestic scholars such as Chen Wenbo and Zhang Peiji, there is few to study figure-related idioms which hold significant position in Chinese idioms and its translation strategies, let alone from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. In the light of this, in this study, the author first analyzed the characteristics of Chinese figure-related idioms by way of building a database, and then carried out a series of comparison from the perspective of functional equivalence theory and finally elaborated the translation strategies of figure-related idioms. Through study, the author found that figures are of great difference separately in Chinese and English, and four-character idioms are unique language forms in Chinese. Therefore, while translating, special translation strategies from the perspective of functional equivalence are needed to adopt because only in this way can we better convey their connotative meaning and propagate our culture. The author hopes that this study can arouse more attention on figure-related idioms and corresponding translation strategies.

摘要:近年来,中外交流的不断加深使汉语受到了前所未有的关注,而汉语成语作为汉语的重要组成部分,如何翻译成语亦成了一项极具挑战性的课题。虽然近几十年来对于成语的研究引起了国内学者的关注,如陈文伯,张培基等,然而在成语中占重要地位的数字成语及其对应的翻译策略研究却寥寥无几。因此,在此次研究中,我们首先通过建立数据库分析汉语数字成语的特征,然后根据功能对等理论抽取各特征的典型实例进行对比分析,最后探讨汉语数字成语的英译策略。通过研究,我们发现英汉两种语言的数字具有很大的不对等性,加之四字成语是汉语特有的表达形式,所以翻译要特别注重采取功能对等的方法调整翻译策略,更准确地传递出其中的内涵,有利于文化的传播。我们希望本文的研究能够引起对汉语数字成语及其翻译策略更多的关注与思考。
