Abstract:The theory of Semantic and Communicative Translation, put forward by Peter Newmark, is an insightful contribution to translation studies which has been applied by many scholars at home and abroad to analyze theoretical and practical problems in both translation and interpretation. In practice translators and interpreters tend to combine the two methods but put extra emphasis on one of them based on consideration of factors such as the original text type, the characteristics of the translation or interpretation activity, the translation or interpretation purpose, and the target text receptors. This paper studies the application of Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation to the interpretation of Premier Wen’s quotations of archaic poems and expressions at press conferences and intends to probe into the mechanism that various factors influence the interpreter’s decision making with regard to interpretation methods.

摘要：由纽马克提出的语义翻译和交际翻译为翻译研究提供了具有深刻见解的理论。国内外许多学者都运用该理论来分析在翻译和口译活动中出现的理论上和实践上的问题。在实践中译者跟译员往往把这两种方式结合起来，但基于源语文本类型，翻译或口译活动的特点，翻译或口译目的以及目标语受众等因素的考虑会偏重于其中的一种翻译方式。以温总理在记者招待会上答记者问时所引用的诗词古语为例，本文研究语义翻译和交际翻译在诗词古语口译中的运用，并且试图找出影响译员口译方法的多种因素。
