ABSTRACT:As an individual or as a whole, women are closely related to the well-being of the whole society. At a family level, there is a relationship between women and happiness. The happiness index also partly relies on women, especially on feminine personality and status of women. Therefore, the two factors, feminine personality and women’s status are mainly analyzed in this research. The relationship between feminine personality and women’s status cannot be ignored---the depression or release of feminine personality acts on women’s status; women’s status influences a lot in shaping feminine personality. The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to compare the heroines between A Rose for Emily and Pride and Prejudice and analyze their own social backgrounds, family backgrounds, personal characters and different endings, then prove that depression or release of feminine personality is affected by the society and family; second, discusses the negative influence of feminine personality’s depression and positive influence of feminine personality’s release, and demonstrates the awakening and social meaning of feminine personality’s depression or release.
Key words: feminine personality; depression; release; social meaning
