ABSTRACT:This thesis aims to analyze Frankenstein from the perspective of gender. The text proceeds to discuss the femininity embodied in the artificial monster Victor Frankenstein and the female quality embodied in other male figures, such as Henry. Based on the discussion, the writer tries to interpret the feminist ideology and the complaint against moral system in the patriarchal society which Mary Shelley use the metaphor to analyze.
This thesis analyses the male characters who are with femininity or sissyish quality in Frankenstein from a unique perspective. It aims to make readers learn more about how women lived under such social circumstances. Meanwhile, it should arouse our attention on contemporary women in the society.
