Abstract：John Donne is considered as the most significant metaphysical poet. His metaphysical concept influenced British literature during the seventeenth century. The Flea is one of the most popular and classic love poems of Donne. This thesis will discuss John Donne and his poems by analyzing The Flea. It appeals that the usage of conceit not only explains Donne’s thought of love and marriage, but also exhibits his metaphysical mode. This is suit for the metaphysical poetry. The Flea is the most representative example of Donne’s usage of metaphysics. The thesis contains three parts. Firstly, the metaphysics and metaphysical poetry, especially the “conceit” will be introduced. Secondly, Donne’s literary career and characteristics of his poems will be discussed. Thirdly, Donne’s metaphysical ideas from his poem The Flea will be analyzed.

中文摘要：约翰•邓恩是最具代表性的玄学派诗人，他的玄学思想影响了整个17世纪的英国。《跳蚤》是邓恩最广为流传的、不朽的爱情诗篇之一。本文以《跳蚤》为例，从三个方面对约翰•邓恩的生平及其诗歌进行分析阐述。分析显示，约翰•邓恩在其诗歌《跳蚤》中运用“奇想”，这不仅解释了他对爱情以及婚姻的思考，并体现出其玄学思想，和当时的玄学诗不谋而合。《跳蚤》是约翰•邓恩运用玄学思想的最好证明。文章分为三个部分：第一，对玄学及玄学诗，特别是玄学诗的最主要特点--“奇想”的介绍；第二，对约翰•邓恩的文学生涯及其诗特点的介绍；第三，对《跳蚤》中进行分析，并讨论归纳约翰•邓恩的玄学思想。
