Abstract: With the gradual deepening of the opening policy and her entry into the WTO, China needs more and more exchange with the outside world. A large amount of information is transmitted by news media especially English news reports. Journalistic English serves as a way to widen one’s knowledge of international community and plays a significant part in our daily life. As the start of a news report, headlines play a special role in news reporting. Thus we should place special emphasis on the characteristics and translation of news headlines. This paper，through a large number of examples，gives a detailed study of the most salient stylistic features of the genre from the three aspects: lexical futures, grammatical features and rhetorical features. Meanwhile, this paper makes an exploration of the translation methods of news headline, including literal translation, free translation amplification and omission .

摘要： 随着改革开放的进一步深化及中国加入世界贸易组织，中国需要更多的了解世界，世界也需要更好的了解中国。其中有大量的信息必须通过新闻媒体特别是英语新闻报道进行传递。新闻英语拓宽了人们对国际社会的认识，在日常生活中起着非常重要的作用。作为一篇新闻报道的开端，新闻标题起着非常特殊的作用。因此我们应强调英语新闻标题的特点及翻译。本文通过大量实例, 从英文新闻标题的词法、语法、修辞手法三方面对新闻标题突出的问题特点进行详细的研究。在结合了当代汉语新闻文体的特点后，指出了不同类别的词汇在汉译时应采用直译、意译、增 词、省略等翻译策略。
