Abstract:William Butler Yeats was deemed as the greatest poet in contemporary literature. He wrote a large amount of poems to Maud Gonne to show his love to her. When you are old and The folly of being comforted are two of these poems. In this paper, the meaning, subject, image and methods of expressing feelings of the two poems will be analyzed to show the similarities and the differences between them, so as to see the author’s sincerity, passion, despair, hate and complex feelings to love.

摘要:叶芝被认为是当代最著名的诗人。他写了很多诗给他深爱的毛德岗。《当你老了》和《徒劳的安慰》就是其中两篇脍炙人口的诗歌。本文从诗歌的意义，诗歌主题，以及诗歌中的意象和抒情方式等不同的角度对这两首诗歌做比较和分析，从两首诗歌的相同点和不同点，来感受叶芝对毛德冈复杂而真挚的爱。
