Abstract: Tender Is the Night, one of the most profound novels of Fitzgerald, was published in 1934. It describes the story of a young psychological doctor named Dick Diver. With elegant temper and ambitious prospects, he seeks the road of pursuing American dream but finally fails and becomes depressed. His experiences reflect Fitzgerald’s tragedy of the disillusion of “American dream”. This thesis attempts to explore Fitzgerald’s misogyny complex from the following aspects: the “material girls” and their luxurious way of life in the novel; women’s apathy to lovers, friends and relatives; women are one of the main causes of men’s disillusion. Finally, it draws the conclusion that Fitzgerald’s misogyny complex can be found in the setting of women characters and the ending of men in Tender Is the Night
Key words: Tender Is the Night, Fitzgerald, misogyny complex
