Abstract: English debate competition has gained much popularity among college students in the 21st century. On this hot topic, this paper mainly discusses about the characteristics of English debate, analyzes the functionsof English intonation and provides the strategies based on the following four aspects: tone and stress; speed and pause. This study aims to give some reference and help to English learners and students who want to improve debate skills.

摘要：近年来，英语辩论赛成了大学中一项十分普遍的赛事活动，越来越多英语学习爱好者把辩论赛当成检验英语水平的机会。本文就这一现象，分析了英语辩论赛的特色，并从语调的基本功能出发，在句调，停顿，重音，语速四个方面分析了语调在辩论中的作用以及正确把握，以期对英语学习者和希望改进英语辩论技巧的同学起到借鉴和帮助作用。
