Abstract: Daisy Miller is one of the representative works of Henry James, the famous American realistic novelist, who is famous for his exploration of “international theme” in his novels. By a close examination of the uncompromising clash between the innocent American, represented by the female protagonist of the novel, Daisy Miller, and the sophisticated Europeans, represented by Mr. Frederick Winterbourne, Giovanelli, Mrs Costello and Mrs Walker etc., this paper traces the origin of Henry James’ “international theme” to the cultural difference, the core of which being an uncompromising clash between innocence and sophistication on the two sides of the Atlantic.

摘要:亨利·詹姆斯是以书写“国际主题”而著称的现实主义小说家,《黛西米勒》是他的代表作之一。本文深入探讨了以黛西·米勒为代表的天真的美国人与以弗雷德里克·温特伯恩,乔万尼利,沃格太太和卡斯特罗太太为代表的世故的欧洲人之间不可避免的冲突,分析了亨利·詹姆斯小说中“国际主题”的本质,指出大西洋两岸文化根基中“天真与世故”的冲突是该主题的根源所在。
