Abstract:Edgar Allan Poe is a brilliant American author and a pioneer of detective fiction and crime fiction. What I focus on in my graduation paper is irony in Poe’s short-story The Cask of Amontillado, which is representative of his horror stories published in 1846. Ironies in this short horror story are used to highlight the psychopathic or deplorable characters, to create the tense and horrific atmosphere, and to develop the theme of revenge in an evasive way.

摘要:埃德加·爱伦·坡是一位伟大的美国作家，同时他也是推理悬疑小说的鼻祖。他的短篇小说多数以悬疑、复仇、恐怖、谋杀、死亡为主题，被称为“美国侦探小说之父”。我所选择的《一桶蒙特亚白葡萄酒》于1846年发表，也是悬疑、恐怖题材的代表作之一。这篇短篇小说字里行间都体现了小说的主题，即恐怖与复仇。本论文将通过详细分析爱伦·坡如何运用讽刺手法突出作品中人物扭曲的性格、创造紧张恐怖的氛围和突出隐秘复仇的主题的。
