Abstract:Emily Dickinson is an outstanding American poet in the nineteenth century. She is good at using the unique imagery and metaphor to express her passion to the poetry and the pursue to the truth. She regards the poetry as a kind of complex relationship which consists of the imagery, rhythm and sounds. This paper mainly focuses on the concept of image to explore the different stages in Emily Dickinson's image world and the concrete manifestation of images in her poetry. According to her growing experience, her image world is divided into three stages. She was interested in the poetry when she was a child, and she was growing gradually in her own poetic world. Her unique growing experience makes her have the ability to use the different images to express her emotions and the view of the social reality. It also shows that the imagery poetry of Emily Dickinson has a vital status in the development of imagist poetry.
