Abstract: The two world famous great works ----------A Dream of Red Mansions and Gone With the Wind occupy an important position in the world literature. Although they were written in different times by two different writers. They can be considered a miniature of the social development in China and America. The main characters in these two works-----Wang Xifeng and Scarlett O’Hara are regarded as two classic women in the struggle of women’s liberation. They play the leading roles of powerful women for their prominent management capabilities .
This thesis includes five chapters to analysis Wang Xifeng and Scarlett O’Hara. The first chapter will give an introduction to the thesis. In the second chapter, I will make a brief introduction to the two authors---Cao Xueqin and Margaret Mitchell, including their social and family background and the two novels’ background. The third chapter will analyze the two novels and introduce the social and family background of the two heroines---Wang Xifeng and Scarlett O’Hara. The forth chapter, which is the most important chapter, will compare the management capabilities of the two female characters through comparing their similarities and differences .The last chapter will be a conclusion to the whole thesis.
The theme of this thesis reflects the differences between two social systems---feudalism and capitalism through analysis the background of the two authors and the life stories and the management capabilities of the two female characters. The thesis also focuses on the awakening of feminism under the two different social systems.
