ABSTRACT:Hong Lou Meng is one of the four famous literary works in china and it is a encyclopedias of feudal society. At present, there are two most classical complete English versions one is entitled A tale of stone by David hawks and the other is A dream of red mansion by yang Xianyi and Gladys yang .Because two translators is live in the different culture background，so their understanding and translation practice must be different about the Chinese culture. So they adopted different strategies on culture factors.
The two translations have obvious differences especially when color words are involved. Although color words have many similarities regardness in English or Chinese, the meaning of those words in the two different languages is not the same. Sometimes ,color, no matter in English or Chinese, reflected the same figurative meaning when it is used to depict something, while there is also sometime when color reveal completely different meaning even it is used describe the same matter. Red, which frequently appeared in Hong Lou Men, demonstrated different translation strategies in different translations. This paper, based on the compiled corpus and translations of red in two English versions, would mainly focus on the two English translations authors understanding and manifestation of the inner meaning of Chinese culture.

摘 要:红楼梦是中国古典文学四大名著之一，也是一部中国封建社会的百科全书。目前，红楼梦最经典的全英译本有霍克斯译本和杨宪益夫妇译本。由于二者处于不同的文化背景中，对中国文化的理解必定不尽相同，因此在有关文化因素翻译的处理上，二者采用了不同的翻译策略和方法。尤其涉及颜色词的翻译时，双方存在着明显的不同。虽然色彩的词汇在汉英两种语言中有着相当程度的一致性和共同性，但色彩在两种语言中的含义却不尽相同，有时在中英两种语言中的颜色所反应的事物具有相同的引申意义，有时却表达着完全不同的含义。作为红楼梦中经常出现的红色，在翻译中体现了不同的翻译策略。本文通过建立平行语料库以及两个英译本中红色的翻译来研究红楼梦两个英译本的译者对中国文化内涵的理解和体现。本文是基于建立平行语料库以及两个英译本中红色的翻译来研究红楼梦两个英译本的译者对中国文化内涵的理解和体现。
