Abstract: Chinese menu is a headache for foreigners. They will be at a loss when they look over a Chinese menu in restaurant, so a good English translation of Chinese menu plays a vital role. It can not only bring much convenience to the foreign friends, but can also present Chinese culture to foreign guests. The paper focuses on the study of method and principle of the translation. It aims to discuss about how to translate a menu which should be easy to understand. Based on skopostheorie, it presents several food name translations with their faults analyzed, and their better versions proposed.

摘要:中餐菜名对于外国友人来说是件很头疼的事,他们翻看中餐菜谱的时候会不知所措,所以一份好的英译中餐菜单是很重要的,这不仅为外国友人提供了便利,也把中国文化展现给了外国顾客。本文旨在通过对菜名翻译方法和原则的研究,来探讨怎样翻出通俗易懂的菜单,并以翻译目的论为支撑,来分析一些菜名并指出其错误的翻译,来提出相应正确的译本。
