Abstract：Idioms are an important part of the culture in any country, which has a long history. To use idioms properly can make language vivid and expressive. English idioms are the quintessence of the language, making English vocabulary more and more abundant and vigor. English majors should learn how to use these English idioms correctly. But in the course of learning English, a strange phenomenon appears: English learners have remembered many words and have mastered grammar of the languages, but they still make many mistakes. That is because some learners do not understand the cultural background.
Ancient Greek civilization is the origin of the western civilization, it has a great influence on the western civilization, while the Greek Mythology is a shining peal of Greek civilization. Many expressions from the Greek Myths, specially some idioms, are getting into the society life of Britain and America, through the works of literature. It is not only enriching the English vocabularies, but also enhancing the power of expressing.
This paper is going to make a study on some idioms originated from Greek myths in five aspects from names of figures, names of animals and plants, events of war and love stories and try to explore some new usages of these idioms in modern English.

摘要：无论在哪个国家，习语都是文化的一个重要组成部分，且有着悠久的历史。恰当地使用习语可以使语言生动，富有表现力。英语习语是英语发展过程中沉积下来的，使英语词汇更丰富，更富有活力。作为英语专业的学生，应该学会如何正确使用英语习语。但在学习英语的过程中，出现了一个奇怪的现象：学习者们在学习过程中记住了很多单词并掌握了所学语言的语法，但还是会犯很多的错误，这是因为不了解文化背景。
古希腊文明是西方文明的起源，它对西方文明有着很重要的影响，而希腊神话则是古希腊文明中一颗璀璨的明珠。大量源于希腊神话的词语，特别一些习语通过文学作品进入英美社会生活，不但增加了英语的词汇量，而且增强了英语的表达力。
本文将从人物姓名，动、植物名称，战争事件和爱情故事这五个方面探寻源于希腊神话的英语习语，分析其意义并探索它们在现代英语语言中的一些新的用法。
