Abstract:Nowadays oral English teaching is still a weak link in traditional English teaching techniques. The Chinese English learners always stay in an impracticable and inefficient level, though they have already learned English for years. If you want to speak fluent English, simple words remain essential. Here, based on the definitions of English simple words, this thesis focuses on the usage of English simple words to improve oral English speaking. By the analysis of English simple words, we can perceive that not only simple words are much practical than big words, but also using simple words can avoid the influence of Chinese thinking on English expression, which is called Chinglish. In addition, with several examples, there are some ways of improving oral English by using simple words. It is hoped that this study will be beneficial for English learners, especially for those who want to improve their oral English.

中文摘要:英语口语在我国一直是二语教学中的薄弱环节。想拥有一口流利地道的英语口语，英语小词必不可少。本文作者从英语小词定义入手，简析英语小词在口语表达中的重要性。通过分析，我们不仅看到英语小词较之大词更为实用，更反映了使用小词实际上是摆脱汉语思维方式对英语表达的影响，从而避免了因文化差异造成的具有中国特征的不规范英语。同时，本文介绍了应用英语小词提高英语口语水平的方法以及少量例子供参考。
