ABSTRACT:Sense and Sensibility is a novel by which Austin published first. The protagonist among them is welcomed by readers greatly but the supporting role especially supporting role of the reverse side is likely to be distasted and ignored. So it is necessary to analyze the small potatoes, and to explore their positions in works, functions and influences. Through describing the story plot in Sense and Sensibility and analyzing the main supporting role in the work, this paper aims to emphasize the small potatoes’ function emphatically. This paper analyzes the personality of Mrs. Ferras, Lucy, Mr. and Mrs. John and describes their affection on article plot. It also explains the necessity of small potatoes by comparing the important person (the protagonist) with the small potato (supporting role) and finish the analysis on small potatoes also pointed out that the importance of describing the small potatoes. This paper finally suggests that readers should pay close attention to every role while reading a book, particularly, they should not neglect the little role which is also important to the article story.

摘 要:《理智与情感》是简·奥斯汀最早发表的小说，其中的主人公很受读者欢迎而配角特别是反面配角容易被憎恨，忽视。 因此有必要对小人物进行分析，并通过分析（他们）了解其在作品中的地位，作用及影响。文中主要论述了《理智与情感》中的故事情节并对主配角进行了分析，着重强调了小人物的作用。主要分析了露西，约翰夫妇，费拉斯夫人的性格及对文章情节的影响。并通过比较大人物(主角)与小人物（配角）来说明小人物存在的必要性，在此基础上完成对小人物的分析也指出了描写小人物的重要性。最后建议读者在阅读一本书时应关注每一个角色，特别是不要忽略配角，因为他们对文章剧情也很重要。
