Abstract:A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the most important works of Tennessee Williams, the famous writer in America. It talks about a white "noblewoman", Blanche, who loses her home and is destroyed at last. It happens in New Orleans. Although it is in Deep South of America, it is influenced by the north. It's an industrial port. The paper talks about a human weakness, desire, and its historical handicap. Her own desire and the historical handicap make her mad and living in her illusion. Through the analysis of the historical handicap, it is another failure of American Dream.

摘 要:《欲望号街车》是美国著名剧作家田纳西·威廉姆斯最重要的著作之一。它描述了一位南方没落的白人贵族-Blanche-从失去家园到精神崩溃的悲惨命运。它以新奥尔良为背景。它虽是在美国南方,但是却被北方影响着,是一个工业化港口。本文通过分析主人公Blanche精神崩溃的原因,论述了欲望是人们的致命弱点,以及时代对于人们生活的重大影响。欲望的召唤和时代造就的无奈,使得Blanche脱离了现实,最终精神崩溃,永远活在自己的幻想中。意图通过对本戏剧特殊的时代背景的分析,揭露了又一个美国梦的破灭。
