Abstract: This study is mainly about a comparative study of the two heroines, Becky and Amelia in Vanity Fair. It aims to exposes the corruption of the society and two heroines inevitable tragic fate in a money-oriented and social-conscious male world. The thesis can be divided into three parts. It first gives an introduction to the novel and its author William Makepeace Thackeray. The following part lists similarities and differences they have, and gives the reasons why they are totally different in many respects, but share the same tragic fate. At the end of the thesis, a conclusion is drawn that against that social background, no matter how hard they try to survive, they cannot escape their tragic fate.

摘要：本文主要是对小说《名利场》中两女主人公夏泼和艾米莉亚进行对比分析，旨在揭露当时金钱至上，男权主义的背景下，两位女主人公无法避免的悲剧命运。这篇文章可以分为三个部分。首先是对小说以及作者做简略介绍。然后于第二部分列出她们的相同点以及不同点，并且给出即使她们很多方面都完全不同，但却蒙上相同悲剧色彩的原因。在文章的结尾，做出总结，在当时的社会背景下，无论她们多努力的想在社会上生存下去，都逃脱不了她们的悲剧命运。
