Abstract: This paper aims to investigate the two important images in the Story of an Hour. They are the door and the window, which are the two typical and significant images to women. This paper focuses on the relationship between the two images and women, especially the effects they have on their freedom and fate. The window and the door are to be analyzed respectively in terms of both positive and negative sides. Reasons are to be suggested to account for Mrs. Mallard’s tragic ending. This paper concludes that women’s tragic fate is unavoidable at that time and looks forward to more freedom and liberty for women.

摘要：本文旨在研究《一小时的故事》中门窗这两个重要意象，这是两个和女性有着密切联系的重要意象。文章将围绕着两个意象和女性之间的联系进行研究，着重分析其给女性的命运带来的一系列的影响。文章将从正反两方面对门窗进行研究，并对马拉德夫人最终悲惨的结局做出一些解释。最后，文章将阐明，在那样一个时代里，女性的悲剧命运是不可避免的，并期待女性可以拥有更多的自由，盼望女性的进一步解放。
