Abstract: Film title, which is related to aspects of the social culture, is also a portion of the social language. Therefore, how to bridge the gap between the audiences from two different kinds of cultural background is crucial to film title translation. Contextual Adaptation Theory, a hot topic in pragmatics nowadays, mainly talks about the key to bridge the gap of different contextual backgrounds, so this paper will apply contextual adaptation to the film title translation. According to the brief explanation of the definition and the classification of Contextual Adaptation Theory, the paper gives a detailed analysis to the application of this theory on the translation, including discussing the feasibility and the crucial rules and summaries the significance of the theory on the translation.

摘要： 众所周知，电影标题也是社会语言的一部分，当然会涉及到社会文化形式的各个方面，如何逾越不同社会文化背景所造成的理解鸿沟有较强的指导性。本文通过对语境适应论的定义和分类的阐释，旨在分析该理论在西方电影片名翻译中的运用，包括探讨这一理论在西方电影翻译中的可行性及相关原则，并总结概括出其在片名翻译中的实际意义。
