Abstract: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), also known as Critical Linguistics, is a new branch of discourse analysis. It aims to discover the relationship between language, power, and ideology through language itself from the perspectives of linguistics, sociology and psychology. However, in the early years of the study, focuses are primarily on critical discourse analysis of news report rather than the English news headlines. In today's society, depending on the time for benefits, the importance of news headlines becomes even more obvious. So the author tries to make a tentative exploration to the contrastive analysis of English news headlines by applying Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar as the analytical tool. Through the analysis of headlines from foreign media in their lexical classification, transitivity, modality and transformation, the author discovers that the news headlines reflect the ideology of foreign media and the relativity of objective news report. And finally, the author hopes that the introduction of Systemic Functional Grammar into the analysis of news headlines will cultivate and improve readers’ critical awareness so that they can grasp the ideology and political intention of the mass media.

摘要：批评性话语分析，又称批评语言学，是话语分析的一个新兴分支，旨在通过语言本身，从语言学、社会学、心理学角度揭示话语，权利与意识形态三者之间的关系。然而，在早期的研究中，批评性话语分析的研究重点主要是新闻报道而不是英语新闻标题。在当今视时间为效益的社会，新闻标题的重要作用显得格外明显。所以，作者将运用Halliday的系统功能语法作为分析工具，对英语新闻标题进行尝试性的对比分析。从批评性话语分析的视角在分类、及物性、情态和转换等方面对美英主流报刊的新闻标题进行分析，揭示出新闻标题反映西方主流媒体的意识形态以及客观报道的相对性。并最终通过对新闻标题从功能语法学角度的分析，可以使受众在解读外媒新闻标题时培养并提高批评性语言意识，把握媒体的思想政治图。
