Abstract:Pride and Prejudice is a very popular novel written by Jane Austen and has been read widely all over the world. It was written in 1813. This paper generally analyses the two elements – pride and prejudice. Traditionally speaking, pride and prejudice are always considered as harmful and negative elements. However, they are intimately related in the novel and play an important role in it. Social milieu and characters’ personalities cause pride and prejudice; they can help the reader understand the characters, the plot and the novel. They also play an important role for the development of the novel. The two elements serve as stimulus and will be the key for us to understand the novel.
