Abstract: The Sun Also Rises is the first novel written by Hemingway. This paper aims to analyze the new female image of Brett Ashley from the particular social background and her special experience. Brett Ashley is a woman who has attractive personality, dares to pursue true love and free will. It concludes that under the influence of the great changes of social ideology after World War I, there emerges a group of new women in the United States and Brett Ashley is the representative of them. In order to get rid of shackles of the traditional ethics and to achieve self-liberation and equality between men and women, she dresses up in fashion and actively pursues a new life in accordance with her own will. She keeps her hope for true love no matter how seriously she is hurt.
