Abstract:Hamlet's characteristic has been a complex and controversial topic for a long time. Based on the analysis of Shakespeare's play Hamlet, this paper analyzes Hamlet's characteristics and advantages and disadvantages of the humanism reflected in his characteristics. Hamlet's characteristics include optimism and pessimism, sense and sagaciousness, as well as his hesitation. His wisdom and courage represent the advantages of humanism, and his hesitation reflects the drawbacks of humanism. All in all, Hamlet's tragedy is due to the darkness in the society and contradiction in his characteristics. Through the understanding of the above, readers can know Hamlet's characteristics more comprehensively.
