Abstract: Based on previous research, the author focuses on cultural differences between China and the west from color words “red, white and yellow”. Initially, this thesis introduces the definition and significance of color words and research at home and abroad. Second, by comparing Chinese and western color words “red, white and yellow”, the author makes a concrete analysis on the differences of the connotation between Chinese and western culture. Finally, the causes of differences are discussed from the aspects of history, politics and religion. By means of literature research, examples and comparative study, the thesis aims to help people have a better understanding of the differences on color words “red, white and yellow” between Chinese and western culture, in order to improve cross-cultural communication more effectively.
