Abstract:In the early years of 20th century, Britain has many social, political and economic issues. Conrad’s Lord Jim was published in that period. Because of the special value of the novel, it attached a lot of critic’s attention at that time. It is also one of Conrad's most popular novels. Jim, the hero of the novel escaped from a shipwreck. But he did not rescue the rest members of his team. After the disaster. He bore the stigma of faith. Even later when he bravely took all responsibilities he went to court for trial. Since then, he could not get out of the shadow. In order to eliminate his moral guilt. He hid in the aboriginal residential area of Tucson to seek who really he was. Jim won the local indigenous faithful love with his courage and integrity. Because of the good things he did. He was called Lord Jim by local people. But after he gave pirates a chance to escape, the pirates broke the promise and killed his best friend. In the end, Jim completed his self-redemption in the way of death. By using a traditional English writing technique combined with symbolism and formalism in his novel. Conrad created his own writing style and enriched the modernist writing. In this novel. Conrad combined impressionism with many kinds of narrative methods. He has a very significant contribution for modern writers and writings.
