Abstract:In recent years, the development of multi-modal theory gradually attracted people's attention, and has made considerable progress in many areas. However, the analysis of multi-modal theory in news discourse is also one of the few. With the news discourse of multi-modal trends emerge, the traditional mode of discourse Meaning Construction has been difficult to meet the needs of discourse analysis, discourse analysis and news will provide a new perspective and ideas for the era of picture-reading.
Multimodal is a universal inner characteristic of human life. Halliday has already been aware of the existence of multi-modal discourse years ago. He believes that in addition to language, there are many ways for people to express what they mean, such as painting, sculpture, music, dance and so on. Thus, the interpretation of social behavior and meaning representation should include all non-verbal symbols ideographic resources.
This paper consists five parts. The first two parts deal with the general situation of the Multimodal Discourse. We will see the significance of the research. The third part is about the theoretical foundation of the study. In the fourth part, linguistic analysis and visual analysis will be reflected by a weibo news , we will find more in the form of multimodal perspective than simply text news. In the fifth part, we will summarize what we have studied on news report, at the same time, we will point out the limitations of the current study and provide suggestions for further study.
