Abstract:The Kite Runner as the first novel of Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini has received great success after its publication. It tells a story about an Afghan-American immigrant Amir who commits a sin in childhood and makes great effort to make up for it in adulthood. This thesis firstly introduces the author, his works, and the Initiation Story, then the experience of Amir’s growth and his redemption is depicted in detail; finally causes of the protagonist’s growth is analyzed systematically, including the social background, individual influences and his own personality. It is concluded that this novel is a typical initiation story, aiming to reflect both good and evil humanity and so touches reader’s hearts.
