Abstract:This paper aims to probe into Amir’s psychological growth by analyzing his cowardice in childhood when he always makes mistakes and avoids responsibility and his bravery in adulthood when he dares to face his mistakes and has courage to take responsibility. There forms a sharp contrast between what Amir does to Hassan and what Amir does to Sohrab. Amir’s transformation from cowardice to bravery reflects his psychological development: independent spirit and positive attitude. This paper also aims to explore the causes of Amir’s growth by analyzing the influence of the society, his family and his own personality, which will be beneficial to the readers in a better understanding of the novel The Kite Runner.
