Abstract：Communicative Language Teaching emphasizes the function of social language, pays large attention to foster the communicative competence of language learners. Meanwhile, the main purpose of English listening teaching is to develop students’ competence of using English to communicate. Therefore, Communicative Language Teaching plays an important guiding role in English listening teaching. Based on communicative approach, authenticity is one major feature of English listening teaching. Communicative Language Teaching can maximize simulate situations faced by students in the daily life, so it can improve students’ proficiency of English listening and competence of language communication. This article describes the definition of the communicative approach and the traits of communicative approach in listening teaching. Then article describes the urgency of CLT in present school teaching. Finally, the article describes the application of CLT in the teaching of English listening.
