Abstract
“In the English learning, listening, speaking, reading and writing are the basic skills, and among the four skills, writing, as the integrated reflection of listening, speaking and reading, is the most complicated skill to be learnt or taught.”(Wen Qiufang 132). However, as for the English learning in high school students, their writing situation is not optimistic and one of the most important problems is the using of writing strategies effectively. So this thesis aims to find what kinds of writing strategies high school students use, what the High school students’ views are on the writing strategies which they often use in their writing and whether these strategies are effective.
In this thesis, it chooses Liu Zhiqun’s classification of writing strategies to do my research in Shuangliu Middle School with the help of questionnaire and individual interview. And the investigation objects are the high school students from Shuangliu Middle School.
Through the investigation, some English writing strategies which students often us are found out such as, peer work strategy, reciting strategy and some linguistic means. And their views about strategies are expressed out clearly, for example, some students think that the strategies they use are effective and they can help students plan their writing thoughts and organize their writings. However, there are still some students thinking that these strategies are not effective, and it is a waste of time when they use to write. What’s more, the investigation also finds some writing problems which exist in high school students’ writings. For example, some students only choose a single writing strategy to write, and it lacks a systematic instruction to help writing. And what’s worse, there are still many students seldom using the writing strategies, and in their opinions, reciting can solve everything. Therefore, according to this investigation and analysis, the thesis is designed to give students some effective suggestions about writing strategies to improve their writing abilities.
