Abstract: This study aims to apply cooperative learning to English reading in junior school. Based on the National English Curriculum Standard. The thesis tries to find out the existing problems that occur in English reading teaching and put forward corresponding solutions. The author introduces the definition and theory of cooperative learning at first, and then puts emphasis on solving the neglected problems. Furthermore, the author advocates that cooperative learning should be applied in the three stages of English reading teaching. It is illustrated by offering examples in English textbooks of Yilin Press. The paper analyzes how to apply cooperative learning strategies before, during and after reading. It concludes that cooperative learning is beneficial to both students and teachers. Through cooperation in reading process, students can improve their awareness and ability in cooperation and become all-round developed people in the future.
