Abstract: Nowadays foreign films and TV series constitute an essential part of Chinese entertainment. And subtitle translation is a bridge for Chinese audience to approach them. Accordingly, the paper is to make a study of subtitle translation under guidance of domestication strategy. The essay takes the American youth TV series the Vampires Diaries as a case to present the application and advantages of domestication strategy. Based on the target audience, domestication strategy aims to translate the foreign works in the way which can facilitate the understanding of films. The author attempts to strengthen argument with factors that influence domestication strategy and how to use domestication strategy.
