Abstract: Numeral in different culture possesses very different connotation. Thus, numeral translation has always been a focus in the academic circle. Tang poetry, with its rich use of numerals and outstanding place in Chinese classic literature, is a case in point for numeral translation. The most obvious and also the most difficult in translating numerals, especially in poetry, is their fuzziness under different culture. This paper, based on Xu Yuanchong’s translation of the Three Hundred Tang Poems, finds that with the principles of fuzziness, literal translation, omission of numerals, change of numerals, rhyme using and words repetition etc. can be applied in best obtaining the acceptance of readers, cultural transmission and agreement with the form, best remaining the essence of poetry and its beauty as well.
