Abstract:In recent years, China has played an increasingly important role on the world stage. As a kind of translation practice, the Government Work Reports involves various information on society, economy and culture of our country, which makes it convenient for foreigners to have a comprehensive understanding to China and provides the platform for international exchanges and cooperation and the shortcut for publicity to foreign countries.
Based upon Skopostheorie, the thesis will study the latest five-year Government Work Reports from 2012 to 2017, and in this way it will offer translators better translation strategies and methods in translation practices. This thesis includes three parts: first of all, this thesis will give a brief introduction to the development of Skopostheorie and expound its three rules respectively as well as discuss its significance. Second, this thesis will introduce the lexical, syntactic and rhetoric features of the Government Work Reports. Finally, the emphasis of the paper will be placed on the application of the three rules of Skopostheorie to the C-E translation of the Government Work Reports so as to put forth translation strategies and methods in C-E translation practices.
