Abstract:With the rapid progress of the times, the world seems to be connected by invisible tie; therefore the exchanges and interactions between different countries are becoming more and more profound. In this trend of development, it’s crucial to accept the spread and integration of culture for a country. Advances in science and technology have promoted the rapid rise of the film and television industry, so people can understand the wonderful world outside even if they stay home all the time. Movies, as a way of exporting culture, can let people from all over the world know about the great and profound Chinese culture. Accordingly, accurate subtitle translation is essential if overcoming the language barriers and spreading the culture more unexpected and deeply. Based on the principle of functional equivalence, this paper makes a detailed analysis of the subtitle translation strategies of the film The Flowers of War from the syntactic, textual and aesthetic levels. I hope to gain some help and inspiration in the subtitle translation to express the deep meaning of the movie.
