《姥姥的遗产》是一部纪实性作品。该部作品讲述了作者两岁开始与姥姥的生活经历。书中截取了一位平凡而卑微的农妇后半生“养育人”的生活片段，以外孙女“我”的独特视觉和切身感受，叙述姥姥呵护“我”成长中不同阶段不同侧面的感人故事。
本翻译实践选译部分是全书的第一章。第一章主要记叙了作者如何伤了腿脚以及姥姥拼死保住作者双腿的故事。两岁时作者的腿出了毛病，是姥姥寻遍当地名医保住了作者的一双腿。其间的艰难和姥姥的锲而不舍感人至深；姥姥不仅是她的养育着，更是她的守护者。本章可分为三个小部分：
第一，姥姥对作者双腿格外关注的表现。每当刮风下雨亦或是有一点点迹象看出作者偏肩时，姥姥都会担心不已。
第二，姥姥对作者双腿关注的缘由。作者幼时腿出了毛病，没有人真正关心照顾。家族的重男轻女，大娘的不断打压让姥姥对此十分痛恨；对作者双腿也感到心疼不已。
第三，姥姥费尽心力抢救作者双腿的过程。
姥姥以过人的勇气、辛劳和智慧，以及底层女性独有的韧劲和耐力，还有不屈和尊严，把“我”养育成人，又一次攀上了生命的山巅。姥姥大海一样爱的品格及用爱养育后人的精神，就是她留下的无价的遗产。
INTRODUCTION
Grandma's Legacy is a documentary work which captures the fragments of an ordinary and humble countrywoman’s life that brought up children. The article recounts lots of touching stories at different aging stages and aspects in a unique sight and feeling through a granddaughter who reared by her grandma.
The selected part is the first chapter of the book, which mainly records the story that how the author had her legs hurt and how desperate her grandma wished to preserve her legs. At the age of two, there was something wrong with the author’s legs, and it was grandma who searched of highly skilled doctors to save her legs. Her grandma was not only her nurturer, but also her keeper since then. This chapter can be divided into three small parts:
First, grandma showed special attention to the author’s legs. No matter it was windy and rainy or there would be any signs to show that the author will be lopsided，she would be very worried.
Second, it recounts the reasons why grandma paid great attention to the author’s legs. When there was something wrong with the author’s legs at the age of two, no one really cared about her. That the family valued the male child only and the aunt suppressed constantly made grandma hated bitterly, which also distressed her at the author’s legs.
Third, grandma tried her best to save the author’s legs.
With superior courage, hardship and wisdom, the underlying unique resilience，endurance and unyielding tenacity and dignity, she fostered the author to a manhood, climbing up the peak of life again. The invaluable legacy which grandma left was her loving character like the broad sea and the spirit of raising descendants in tenderness.
