中文摘要:作为国民经济的新起之秀,中国旅游业在不断发展的过程中展现出了强大的生命力。旅游景点名称,作为各景区公示语的一部分,是游客对景点的第一印象,因此,译好景点名称对帮助外来游客更好地领悟景点之美、促进我国旅游业的发展,显得尤为重要。目前,虽然国内外的许多专家学者都对旅游景点名称英译进行过不少研究,但是国外的研究更倾向于把握“景区公示语”这个大概念,很少有人专门探讨“景点名称英译”这个相对较小的概念。而国内的分析缺乏统一的理论指导且大多侧重驰名中外的大型景点,例如苏州的园林,而未考虑到一些颇具特色的小城市景点。这些小城市的景点名称大多涉及当地复杂而独特的文化背景,若无合适的翻译理论指导,译者着实难以入手。本文将以常熟景区为例,广泛调查该地景点名称英译的现状,结合严复的“信、达、雅”理论对这些英译名称进行分析,并在此基础上总结“信、达、雅”理论指导下景点名称英译应遵循的原则,以此改善常熟旅游景点名称的英译质量,为当地的旅游经济发展做出一定贡献。
