《伦敦48小时》是一本侦探型小说，故事发生地是伦敦，与伦敦的地理与文化紧密联系。故事的主人公乔希·哈蒙德收到一份匿名勒索邮件，要求他在48小时之内交赎金25万，否则就要付出生命的代价。乔希只是被勒索的对象之一，在伦敦市的其他地方上演着类似的情节，并且也引起了警察的关注。警察顺着线索慢慢破案，最终将勒索者绳之以法，让之为此付出了代价。本次翻译实践节选书中的第一至第六章节进行翻译。
翻译所选其中的六个章节，正是勒索者为让乔希相信赎金要求的真实性，而做出的一系列的提示和警告。每个章节都有一个特定的时间点，译文也遵循了原文的时间顺序。有较多外貌描写和心理描写，以此来反映主人公和勒索者的性格特征。
译文可以分为两个部分。第一部分是第一章到第四章，主要讲了勒索者给主人公乔希发勒索邮件后，乔希的一系列反应。乔希虽然半信半疑，但是也没有马虎地对待这件事情。乔希找领导商量对策，并听取建议，雇佣保镖并且去警局说明情况。这部分中也有对勒索者的介绍。
第二部分是第五第六章。这个部分主要讲了勒索者为了提醒乔希时间有限，来到乔希住所附件向乔希射了三发彩弹枪。在这之后，乔希进入沉思，为什么会选择勒索他。
翻译心得主要写的是在翻译过程中遇到的问题和相应的解决办法。问题有在翻译过程中有些情况对关联词可不翻译，不理解内容逐字翻译和理解内容但表达不当，长句的翻译和一些专有名字的翻译。可以通过查询相关书籍和向老师寻求帮助来解决问题。
INTRODUCTION
48 Hours in London is a detective story. The story took place in London, and the story had close connection with London’s geography and culture. Leading character Josh Hammond received an anonymous blackmail email, which required Josh to pay a quarter of one hundred dollars with forty-eight hours, or he would be killed. In fact Josh was one of the victims in the city, similar plots took place in other places in London, which arose the attention of the police. The police solved the case by following a clue and finally brought the blackmailer to justice, the blackmailer paid the price for his criminal actions. This translation practice selected chapter one to chapter six.
In the selected six chapters, in order to make Josh believe authenticity of the ransom demand, the blackmailer made a series of reminding and warning. There were much appearance description and psychological description in the text, so as to reflect the character traits of Josh and the blackmailer.
The translation can be divided into two parts. The first part concludes chapter one to chapter four, which mainly showed that what Josh did after the blackmailer sent the blackmail email to Josh. Though Josh was uncertain about the truth of the blackmail, he took the matter seriously. Josh asked the leader for help and followed the suggestions given by the leader, who asked Josh to hire a bodyguard and went to the police station to make a statement.
