INTRODUCTION
The novel The rise and fall of a yummy mummy is written by the famous female writer Polly Williams. The book is mainly about the life of a new mother Amy. The story starts at six month after Amy had delivered her baby Evie. Her life is in a mess. First, she is disappointed at her still-pregnant figure after she gave birth to her baby. She is just not satisfied because she used to be proud of her figure. Second, she finds something changed about her husband. Actually, she suspects her husband is cheating on her while she has no evidence. She is in dilemma but she has to find her old self.
I choose chapter eleven, twelve and thirteen as my translation chapters. Chapter eleven tells the terrible experience of Amy happened during mothers' party. In chapter twelve, Amy goes to her friend Alice's home and realizes why she looks just like a bumpkin. She decides to change herself. So in chapter thirteen, Amy grabs out the dress which used to gain her so much attention. She is also confused about the relationship with her husband. Everything happens so awkwardly. Before translating, I look through the whole book in order to get a brief understanding about it and I look up the new words and some phrases in order to ensure my translation quality.
I choose the chapters which are full of dialogues. To each translator, dialogues are the essence of the work. It is never an easy job to translate the dialogue because it shows a translator's level. However, during my four years' study, translating is not only a way showing my translating skills, but also realizing my personal value. What's more, as I translate a book about females in our daily life, it can provide some experience on how to cope with our own. So, it is an honor for me to do something for the society.
The translation chapters demonstrate a vivid story about how a yummy mummy fights with her life and gets confidence after suffering many life experiences. Also, it reminds us of the value of life in modern society.
