ABSTRACT
Tess of the D’Urbervilles, written by Thomas Hardy,is a famous realism novel. Tess of the D’Urbervilles described a story of a pure woman Tess, who lived a tragic life under the oppression of the patriarchal society and traditional morality. This paper analyzes the oppression Tess suffered and her revolts and presents Hardy’s female view. Even though they were suppressed by many factors, women in the Victorian Age were still full of rebellious spirits and were brave enough to pursue for love and freedom.
