Abstract
Tess and Hester are the heroines of Tess of the d'Urbervilles and The Scart Letter. Tess is one of the representative works of the famous British novelist, Thomas Hardy, and The Scart Letter is one of the representative works of the famous American novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne. The two works are different in the writing era, theme and background. But if we do some comparison we can find that there are still some similarities between the two heroines. This paper aims to compare the tragic destinies of the two heroines and get some truth of the life.
