Abstract
Known as the spokesman of the Jazz Age, Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most famous American novelists in the early 20th century. It is generally acknowledged that The Great Gatsby is his representative work. Numerous scholars home and abroad have done a great deal of research on the novel. Over the past few years, human's exploitation of natural resources is increasingly growing with the technological development, which has contributed to worsening ecological problems. Therefore, it is of crucial significance to approach The Great Gatsby and interpret Francis Scott Fitzgerald's ecological consciousness. Thus this thesis interprets the novel from the perspective of eco-criticism. The thesis interprets it from three aspects:natural ecology, social ecology and spiritual ecology, which further explores the relationship between man and nature, man and society and man and himself. Through the analysis, people will further realize the significance of harmony.
