Abstract
The Great Gatsby is the masterpiece of famous American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, which shows the disillusionment of “American Dream” in the 1920s. Since its publication, the novel has been very popular among ordinary readers and literary critics as well. It is widely considered to be a literary classic in American literature. The reason why it is one of the greatest novels all over the world is not only because of the profound theme, but also because of the excellent writing skills and artistic characteristics. The dissertation aims to analyze the way of narration in The Great Gatsby, give a detailed and comprehensive interpretation of the main characters, and reveal the significance of symbolism.
