Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the causes of the love tragedy between Gatsby and Daisy in The Great Gatsby. It mainly analyzes the internal and external causes leading to Gatsby and Daisy’s love tragedy. The external factor includes two divisions: the influence of Money-worship society and the barrier of rigid social hierarchy. The internal factor also involves two aspects: the protagonists’different views on love and their own character flaws. It concludes that Gatsby and Daisy’s tragic love is ascribed to the deformed society, protagonists’ distorted values and their own character flaws. Furthermore, this paper points out that the love tragedy is the epitome of the decayed morals and fierce social conflicts in the Roaring Twenties.

摘要：本文旨在研究《了不起的盖茨比》中盖茨比和黛西爱情悲剧的成因，从内外两方面因素来分析盖茨比和黛西的爱情悲剧，得出以下结论：盖茨比和黛西爱情悲剧形成的根本原因是在金钱至上的社会中人们都被钱所驱使，盖茨比和黛西也不例外。此外，盖茨比和黛西的爱情观和各自性格缺陷也是悲剧成因之一。盖茨比盲目、过于理想化而黛西变得很实际，自私。本论文进一步指出盖茨比和黛西的爱情悲剧是喧嚣的二十年代堕落的社会道德和激烈的社会冲突的缩影。
