ABSTRACT:For most companies and institutions, business letter is the primary ways of business communication. It can not only convey information but also shoulder the responsibility of building up and promoting business relations. You-attitude has been considered to be an important principle applied in English business letter writing. Most researchers point out that You-attitude means that the writer takes into account the reader’s thoughts, feelings, and point of view when writing a business letter. Some researchers even give some tips for the application of You-attitude. Based on the intensive studies, this thesis is intended to make a more profound and systematic exposition on You-attitude so as to improve its application. In the thesis, the author will firstly give an explicit definition of You-attitude, which is the basis for the development of the exposition. Then, the specific strategies for the application of You-attitude in different kinds of English business letters will be discussed. The conclusion which can be drawn from this is that You-attitude should be considered the basic principle of guiding effective English business letter writing.

中文摘要:对于绝大多数企业和商业机构来说,商业信函是进行商务沟通的主要手段。英文商务信函是商务交流的一种重要方式,不仅具有传递信息的功能,还担负着建立、加强业务联系的重任。You-attitude一直被认为是商务信函写作的重要原则。大部分研究人员认为,You-attitude是指在商务信函写作过程中将读者的想法、感情以及观点列入考虑,另有部分学者还就You-attitude的应用提出了建议。在深入研究的基础上,本文试图对You-attitude作更系统深入的阐释以促进它的应用。作者先分析并重新定义You-attitude,然后分析You-attitude在不同商务信函中的使用。总而言之,You-attitude应作为商务信函写作的首要原则,并指导商务信函的有效写作。
