Abstract
A Room with a View, directed by the famous director James Ivory, is adapted from the novel of E. M. Forster. Throughout the film adaptation, the adapter is largely faithful to the original novel. The elegant atmosphere and strong nostalgia of the British upper class in the Edwardian era have been echoed in this film. At the same time, the film version not only wins the recognition of many viewers and critics, but also explores deeply the complex human nature and life itself, with its artistic and ideological aspects achieving a perfect and harmonious unity. This paper focuses on the inheritance and changes of the novel from words to images in terms of style and expression techniques, characterization, plot, color and light. The comparative study of the two is of great significance to the examination of the relationship between the film and the novel.
