Abstract: Lu Xun is honored as “the father of modern Chinese literature”. The True Story of Ah Q is one of the most outstanding representative works of Lu Xun. Culture-loaded words in The True Story of Ah Q really reflect features of politics, economy, material culture, religious faith and customs in middle-class and lower-class people in that society. This paper analyzes the levels of vocabulary, syntax, structure and style of the translated version “The True Story of Ah Q” by the couple Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang from the perspective of functional equivalence. The author hopes that Chinese excellent works will be translated more accurately based on functional equivalence, and thus spreading Chinese culture and promoting cultural exchange between China and western countries.
